5 Common Mistakes To Avoid When Remote Working

In today’s world, more and more people are working from home or from remote offices. Remote working puts more things under our control because we are not working at office and some rules don’t typically apply. Prolonged remote working could affect productivity and it could become problematic because there are many mistakes that can be made.

With that being said, we are going to take a look at some common mistakes to avoid when remote working:

No Designated Workspace- by not working in a specific workspace each day, it is harder to maintain focus and remain productive. Consistency may result in fewer distractions and you can continue working longer. Every home is different, so it’s important to remain sensible when designating a workspace. Employees should make the most out of available space at home. Try to find a secluded area at home where you can remain focused.

Not Taking A Break- many people think that because they are already at home, it’s not necessary to take a break as often. You should take time to go outside and walk. After walking for 5 to 10 minutes, your mind will be rejuvenated and refreshed for another session of work. Try to stand up and do light exercise after working for an hour or two. Listening to calming background music can also keep you motivated.

Inconsistent Work Schedule- because you are working from home, keeping a 9-to-5 work schedule can be a challenge. This is crucial, however, to keep you productive and motivated. Make sure that you are already sitting at your desk five minutes before the work schedule begins.

Not Dressing For Work- developing the same morning routing is important for productivity. When it’s time for breakfast, you should already be fully dressed for work. Because you don’t need to commute to work, you can have breakfast longer, while watching the news. By dressing properly, it won’t be awkward if you need to have an online conference with co-workers, managers, or clients.

Not Socialising- although you are not working at office, it is still important to continue socialising within your professional circles. Consider meeting with co-workers through online conferences fifteen minutes before work while enjoying morning snacks and a cup of coffee. A 3PM coffee break is also a good way to have casual conversations and become more productive by making some quick plans with co-workers.
