Presenting with Impact

Option 1: Communicating with Confidence

90-minute workshop for up to 8 participants (face-to-face or virtual)

This is a taster session for up to 8 participants. There is no practice during the session or preparation needed by the participants.

 

Content

  • Present your ideas in a concise and persuasive manner

  • Dealing with objections

  • Using PowerPoint / visual aids effectively

  • Optimising your voice

Participants will come away with ideas of how to engage the audience with voice, body language and visual aids, a general idea about structure and the beginning, middle, and end, and some tips on best use of visual aids and dealing with objections

Option 2: Presenting with Impact

1-day workshop for 10 participants (face-to-face or virtual)

This is an 0930 to 1700 course, with a very short lunch break. Participants are asked to prepare a 7-minute presentation including visual aids prior to the workshop.

 

Content

  • Delivery of 7-minute presentation with feedback (recorded on video)

  • The importance of visual, vocal and verbal communication across different media (face to face, online – video, online – voice only)

    • Presenting on Zoom / Teams / Face to face

  • Preparation – who, what and when is it? How much time do I have? What do they want to know?

    • Who is the audience (level, knowledge, expectations)

    • The Structure

      • Your beginning, middle and end

      • Presentation focus and intended outcomes

      • Grabbing attention, keeping attention, finishing strong

    • Keeping the audience engaged throughout – audience attention span

      • How do you want your audience to feel

      • Telling a story and aiming at emotions

      • Using emphasis

    • Visual Aids

      • Using PowerPoint (and other aids) successfully)

  • The Brutal Edit – structuring and giving your 10-minute presentation in 90 seconds

    • With feedback

    • And then using 50% of your slides

  • Interaction online

    • Presenter or Facilitator

    • Co-presenter or on your own

    • Using Polls etc

    • Using Visual Aids

Participants will be fully apprised on how to deliver presentations using themselves (vocal, verbal and visual aspects), visual aids, how to structure, making a strong beginning, keeping engagement throughout and a strong end, as well as ensuring a concise high impact presentation. There will be two chances to deliver out-loud – the original presentation, and a 90-second edit. Both are appraised by the facilitator, other participants and by video.

Option 3: Presenting with Impact

Two-day course for up to 8 participants (face-to-face or virtual)

This is an 0930 to 16:30 course. Participants are asked to prepare a 10-minute presentation which will be delivered with feedback, they are then asked to edit that down to 90 seconds, to ensure conciseness, and participants finish the workshop by delivering again a 10 minute version of their original presentation, having edited the content, the visual aids and incorporating the structure and delivery styles discussed on the course.

      • Owning the ‘stage’ and movement

      • The importance of Eye Contact with the whole audience

      • What to do with hands and feet

    • The words we use

      • Using strong, certain or powerful words

  • Preparation – who, what and when is it? How much time do I have? What do they want to know?

    • Who is the audience (level, knowledge, expectations)?

    • The Structure

      • Your beginning, middle and end

      • Presentation focus and intended outcomes

      • The Must knows, Should knows and Could knows

      • Developing and delivering your key messages

    • Keeping the audience engaged throughout – audience’s attention span

      • Adding ‘spice’

      • How do you want your audience to feel?

      • Telling a story and aiming at emotions

        • You will prepare a short story to deliver in your second full presentation

      • Using emphasis

      • Using questions to engage

    • Visual Aids

      • Using PowerPoint (and other aids) successfully)

    • Handling tough questions and objections

  • Re-design and delivery of your 10 minute presentation (recorded on video)

Participants will learn about and practice all the skills and knowledge needed to present with impact, including a strong beginning, middle and end, how to handle nerves, ensure only relevant content is included, using the voice to have a different impact throughout and develop a story or other spice to engage the audience. This option includes 3 practices, the third being the finished product!
